A personal collection of dependable recipes, seasonal ideas and the small details that make time around the kitchen table feel special.

Nigel

Hello, I’m Nigel—the cook, baker and photographer behind Nigel’s Kitchen Table.

This is a place for dependable recipes, practical kitchen knowledge and the kind of food that brings people together. I share everything from cakes, breads and desserts to savoury dishes, seasonal cooking and the techniques that make recipes work.

My love of food began at home in the South of England. My mother was always busy in the kitchen, and from an early age I would help her prepare meals and make cakes. She taught me that food is not simply something we eat—it is also a way of showing love, looking after people and creating memories around the table.

From professional kitchens to home cooking

At 17, I began training in professional cookery before working in kitchens in London and the United States.

Those years gave me a strong understanding of ingredients, preparation, technique and the importance of consistency. They also taught me that good cooking does not need to be complicated. The best results often come from understanding a few important details and treating ingredients with care.

Today, I bring that professional experience into recipes designed for the home kitchen. My aim is to explain not only what to do, but also why it works, so that you can cook and bake with greater confidence.

Life in Budapest

In 2004, I moved to Budapest with my wife and began a new chapter of my life. Living in Hungary introduced me to new ingredients, traditions and ways of cooking, while strengthening my interest in seasonal food, preserving and making things from scratch.

Away from the kitchen, I enjoy gardening and growing my own fruit and vegetables. When the harvest allows, I use home-grown apricots to make traditional Hungarian pálinka—from preparing the fruit and fermentation through to distillation and the finished spirit.

Food, the outdoors and family are all closely connected in my life. Whether I am cooking, working with seasonal ingredients or simply enjoying time outside, these are the things that continue to inspire what I share at Nigel’s Kitchen Table.

In 2017, we adopted Maya, our much-loved dog. She had experienced a difficult start in life, but over the years she has become an important part of our family.
